This is the second in a series of open letters to people who have influenced my life. Because of the current BCTF Strike, as well as the appalling response by the BC Liberal Government, I have decided to address this letter specifically to the education minister, Peter Fassbender's Smirk. Dear Peter Fassbender's Smirk, You and… Continue reading An Open Letter to Peter Fassbender’s Smirk and the People That Taught Me

In Which Cats, Cats Cats, Cats? Ha ha! Cats!
Get your tinfoil hats on, folks, because the internet is in our brains and our constant contributions to social media is ruining our lives. Also, cats. For the last four days I've been taking part in Block Week. The hellish University of experience of completing an entire course, that is four months worth of material,… Continue reading In Which Cats, Cats Cats, Cats? Ha ha! Cats!

An Open Letter to Hawksley Workman
When I turned 21 I decided I would make an attempt to write a letter to each person of note that had a substantial impact on my life through their contributions to the entertainment and media world.I did not accomplish this. I had the best intention, honest. I was going to write to Stephen Colbert… Continue reading An Open Letter to Hawksley Workman
In Which the Commonly Expected and Hastily Accepted are… Not?
This evening I was perusing my Facebook only to discover a brilliant article shared by a former professor of mine. I say 'former professor', but the truth of the matter is she is still constantly teaching about gender within media and the proper way to format smarm, even if she doesn't realize it. Whatever the… Continue reading In Which the Commonly Expected and Hastily Accepted are… Not?

Dear Alberta Government, It's been a while since last we spoke, and a lot has happened in the Province of Alberta. Alison Redford is no longer High Supreme Commander of the Good Ship Lollipop, and Health Minister Fred Horne is the Intern Premier (Inmiere? Preterm?) Good for you, Fred. I'm proud of you, especially given… Continue reading An(other) Open Letter to the Government of Alberta

Our Ronald McDonald House Charities blog: Come on in!
By Claire Griffin: Director, Marketing & Communications – Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta and Ronald McDonald House® Central Alberta
I have always been fortunate and grateful for the good as well as the challenges in my life. The challenges created the bumps in the road that lead me to where I am today. But that all changed recently. As a Mom with a 3 year old son newly diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, I felt like I had run out of things to be grateful for. I was suddenly faced with a life of disability and all of the challenges, uncertainty, worry and stress that come with it. Each day was about making it through to the next and I really didn’t have time to even think about gratitude; let alone breathe in its abundance. I was also losing my ability to empathize with people, an emotional tool that is…

Vinyl Cafe Story Exchange – Easter Weekend
August 25th, 2012, I had to take my dear old cat, Stewie, in to be put down. He was sick, we figured kidney failure. He was an old cat, almost 18 years old. What a loyal beast he was. While we had put down another cat a few years earlier, I hadn't been there for… Continue reading Vinyl Cafe Story Exchange – Easter Weekend
